Does your garbage disposal hum, but the blades won’t spin? Don’t worry, this is a common issue and usually just means it’s jammed.
Here’s how to fix it with a few simple, safe steps:
Safety First! Before you do anything, completely cut the power to the disposal from your main circuit breaker panel.
Manually Free the Blades: Look for a hex-shaped hole (Allen key entry point) at the bottom center of the disposal unit. Insert an Allen wrench and turn it back and forth several times to dislodge any obstructions and free the blades.
Press the Reset Button: Next, press the small red or black reset button, also located on the bottom of the unit.
Final Test: Restore power, run cold water down the drain, and then try turning the disposal on.
If the problem continues, it’s time to call the experts! Our team is always ready to get your appliances back in safe, working order.
